Running or not running
To start running again after a longer break can be tough for a lot of runners. The reasons for the stop from the sport that we all love so much play of course a big role.
At the beginning of 2021 I had problems with my patella tendon and was not able to continue with my running scope I was used to. By calming down, ointment and a total stop of running, the pain
dissapeared and I was able to run my routes again without any problems. Now I need to keep my running shoes in my wardrobe due to a minor cold, what get's my slightly "out of balance".
Spring is softly knocking on the door, temperatures are slowly rising, the days become longer and the running clothes become shorter again.
I am positive, that 2021 will bring a lot of good things. Although the signs are not that good, when looking at the pandemic - it has to get better!
With that in mind, enjoy running, don't get demotivated by necessary breaks and have a positive outlook!

Spring is coming
Today I have done an awesome 16 k evening run. After a long time I started in the daylight.
The run was good, I did not feel the cold anymore and my knees did not cause any trouble. This is how it can be continued.
The picture is from today's bike ride with my daughter. It is nice, when the colors return to nature again.

Contrasts
My kids and I enjoyed the springlike conditions and went for a bike tour. During this time of the year you can see the contrasts in nature especially good. In lower altitude the fields and lawns slowly become green, while the mountain tops are still covered in a white blanket of snow - like in this picture.
Runningwise I was able to put an evening half marathon on 08.04.2021 to my records, as well as calm 17 k in the darkness on 10.04.2021.

Time management
Every working running dad knows about this. If you want to put your run on the daily schedule of your family beside the many other things, that need to be done during day, time management is an important success factor.
During the last weekend I took my youngest one with me on my route in the buggy twice. Doing it this way, he was able to sleep during monotone movements and I was able to collect my kilometres.
So on Sunday afternoon there was enough time for a family trip to the ruins of a castle. That's where this photo was taken. These thick walls have endured a lot of years. Compared to that, our short moment on earth seems really tiny.
Have a great new week and enjoy your runs!

Running unites
Today I had the chance to run a couple of calm kilometres with a friend from Finland, who was in town for business. I showed him a nice combination of wood paths, water and spring colours. All things, that are hard to find in the capital of Finland.
During the run we talked about all kinds of things and I realised what binding energy running has.
A lot of us love running with company, some of us love to run by themselves. Around the global runners are putting on their shoes and collecting kilometres. And sometimes it happens, that runners, that are usually running 2.000 km away from each other, have the chance to run together. And that is - especially in times like these - an awesome thing!
After our run we of course went to the Finnish Sauna!

A run in the rain
I was able to conclude a sucessful and short work week today with a calm sub80 evening run through the rain. That's ideal to let your thoughts float, to reflect on the recent days and to find new ideas.
During such a rainy weather you can see unusual high waters in the local rivers as well as interesting creatures, who are on an evening trip too.
Enjoy the prolonged weekend and all the best!

Running with Big and Small
I was able to run for 7,5 km on this sunny Sunday together with a friend before I tried out the new babyjogger with my youngest one. Doing it that way made me able to work on friendship and have good talks and be there for my family almost at the same time.
It total it have been 18 km that I put to the records at the end of the day.
Again a perfect example for the positive things that running can bring to us.

Running after a short forced break
Due to a minor cold I needed to take a pause from running for a couple of days. But the first longer run after this forced break was awesome - a breathtaking sunset behind the wheat field included!
Once we can't do things anymore or we don't have things anymore, we know again what value they have for us. That is valid in running and in life.
Enjoy your runs and the many positive things of life!

Most of us are no professional runners
I love running. But first and foremost I am a Dad, I have a job and a house with garden. All of that are areas in my life which need a lot of attention. And that is a truth for a lot of runners.
That's why I started to make my running sessions a bit slower at the end of the year 2019. I am keeping the average heartrate of my runs below 80% of the maximum heartrate.
Running like this brought a lot of positive aspects to my life which I would like to share with you.
sub80 brings a lot of positive stuff
Running at sub80 leads to a faster recovery from your training sessions. So most of the time you are able to run again on the next day after a short period of rest.
According to my experience the immune system does not get that much stressed, that's why the risks of getting infections are lower. Therefore you are able to run more ofen and you don't have to pause due to illnesses.
Long runs at this heartrate strenghten your fitness and your capability to run longer distances.
Running in times like these
The global Covid-19 pandemic affects a lot of areas in our lives. That's why it is important in times like these to strenghten your immune system, to stay healthy, to keep distance and to protect the risk groups.
This works very well by doing long evening sub80 runs out in the nature.
Stay healthy, keep distance and enjoy your runs! :)
Old paths, new goals
For the first time after approximately 7 years I ran again on these paths. I recognized on which way I changed and developed further during that time. Thoughts of the past suddenly came to my mind again - like a small time travel. Change is the core process of life - it is awesome to see, that you experienced positive changes and developments.
Do you know moments like these? Enjoy your day! :)
If you keep your eyes and ears open during running you will meet interesting creatures. During my last sub80 evening run I met this hedgehog. I had to think about the tale of the race between the rabbit and the hedgehog. Do you remember that story?

Awesome sub80 evening run at good temperatures after a very hot afternoon.
At some point the noise of the day is disappearing and you only hear the concert of the crickets!

There are a lot of amateur runners like us! Beside our passion for running we have to take care of our family and our job. Sometimes we don't get much sleep, sometimes we don't eat very good and healthy and sometimes we start our runs when a lot of others go to bed.
That's why it is important that our way of running makes us want to run again on the next day. Running in sub80 can help a lot, because the time for recovery is much shorter after a sub80 run.
sub80 leads to the fact, that running beside our other duties in family and job and with a lack of sleep is still fun and pleasant!

Those breathtaking nature events become more intense after a longer running break. Especially sunsets look like they look just for a short period of time. That's why every run into the sunset is unique, like this picture.
I like running in the evening - by doing that I have time for my family and my other tasks and can watch the sunset during my run while everything around me becomes silent.
Enjoy your runs, no matter if they are in the morning, during the day, in the evening or in the night! Every single run is special and every time of the day and night has their own charm!
